Currently based in Toronto, Justen is a Canadian Director, Actor, and Playwright who has worked in Canada and the UK.
Over his career, Justen has worked as a director and actor on mainstage season shows, independent productions, festivals, and fringes in a variety of genres including contemporary, comedy, drama, Shakespeare, musical theatre, and period. He is especially interested in new work and queer theatre. Justen has recently entered the world of voice acting and is enjoying expanding his skills and experience in new ways.
As a playwright, Justen’s most recent work, The Fantastical Adventures of [Not] Being With You, premiered at an off-West End venue in London, UK. Addition: An Unconventional Love Story has had two productions under the How Far? Productions banner. Selection, Justen’s first play, premiered in 2008.
In 2005, Justen received his Bachelor of Arts – Drama from University of Alberta. Since then, his passion for knowledge has led him to training in areas including clown, physical theatre, dance, aerial arts, voice, and stage combat.
Possessing a love of language and narrative, especially any work that plays with conventions of either, Justen is always open to new and exciting challenges. Having been involved in many premiere productions as director, playwright, actor, or selection committee member, he finds new work especially exciting. Justen is constantly searching for theatre that does what other mediums can’t.
